The B-17 is one of the legendary airplanes of WW2. It made daylight bombing of German industry possible when no other bomber could stand up to the withering fire from German fighters. (With all due respect to those who flew B-24's, the B-24 was less capable of absorbing the massive damage that German fighters inflicted on our heavy bombers). For those interested in the history of World War 2, this book is one you should not overlook. I was a first pilot, flying The Iron Maiden (B-17), with a crew of ten, out of Kimbolton, England, 1943. I owe my life to that airplane, truly one of a kind.
